Since Pope Leo XIV was elected, Pokemon fans had some fun with the Popplio meme, which saw the seal-looking water-type creature donning a mitre. Recently, though, a lucky and devout Pokemon fan had the pleasure of making the meme a reality of sorts when the Holy Father signed his Popplio card during a youth trip to Italy.<\/p>\n

Talking about his experience on Reddit<\/a>, the fan known as ReptileCake said that Pope Leo got a small chuckle from the interaction. He brought two cards with him, one for the Pope to bless, and the other to sign.<\/p>\n

“I introduced it as Popplio because it sounds like Pope Leo,” ReptileCake wrote on Reddit earlier this week. “He laughed, probably as a courtesy, but he did know about Pok\u00e9mon cards, he even showed it around to the guards around him. Then I asked him to sign a copy for me, and he was happy to oblige.”<\/p>\n

When asked if he’d ever sell or grade the card, ReptileCake intends to hold on to it forever and not stress about it being sent away.<\/p>\n

“Nope, I’ll never intend to get rid of the card, it is my personal artefact and I will cherish it in sleeve and one-touch UV slab,” he said. “I will not risk the card being damaged or lost in transit.”<\/p>\n

With this signature, this card becomes one of the most notable Pokemon cards on the planet. Popplio was best known for being one of the starter creatures in the franchise’s 7th generation games Pokemon Sun and Moon, originally launched in 2016 on Nintendo 3DS.<\/p>\n
