How To Get To The End In Minecraft
The End is, perhaps aptly, the area of Minecraft where the endgame and post-credits content takes place. Despite there being no real limits to what you can do in Minecraft, fighting the Ender Dragon here and jumping back through a portal to the overworld will cause the game’s credits to roll, meaning that many consider it the end of the game.
There are multiple separate islands in the End made of End Stone, but the only Minecraft mobs that exist there are Endermen, Shulkers, and the Ender Dragon herself. In this guide, we’ll explain how to get there and why you might want to travel back to the End even after beating the Dragon.
How to get to the End
To get to the End, you’ll need to find a Stronghold that contains an End Portal. You’ll know you’ve found the End Portal as it’s quite a distinctive-looking structure that can’t be found anywhere else in the game.
To begin with, you’ll need to travel to the Nether and find a Nether Fortress. This is the only place where Blazes spawn, and when Blazes are killed, they drop Blaze Rods. These are essential to making your way to the End, alongside Enderpearls, which are dropped when killing Endermen. These aren’t a guaranteed drop, though, unlike Blazes, so you’ll need to kill a few Endermen to get around twelve of them.

From there, combine the Enderpearls with the Blaze Rods to create Eyes of Ender. You can throw these into the air, and follow the direction they travel in until they drop to the ground. Occasionally, they’ll break when they drop, so you will need to have plenty to travel with. We recommend around 20.
The Eyes of Ender will travel in the direction of the End Portal. Once you throw one into the air and it doesn’t head in any direction, dig down at the exact point that it drops to discover the Stronghold containing the End Portal.

You’ll need 12 Eyes of Ender to fill the portal with to activate it. Some of the portal’s slots may have an eye already inside it, so you might not always need to use all twelve Eyes in every case. Once all of the portal’s slots have an Eye of Ender in, the portal will open and you can jump through to reach The End. Once you enter The End for the first time, the only way out is to die or defeat the Ender Dragon.
The End biomes
There are technically five biomes that make up the End in Java, but these are all classed as one biome in Bedrock. In all biomes, End Stone is the only block to generate unless you find a structure. The terrain is almost completely flat. Inside the main area of the End, you will find 20 gateways to the End Islands, which only spawn after the Ender Dragon has been defeated.
The End Highlands form the hilltops in the center of each island, and are the only biome where chorus trees will naturally generate. You can also find End Cities here. The End Midlands are part of the outer End Islands, and form the slope from the Highlands down to the cliffs. You won’t find chorus trees here, but you still may find End Cities. End Barrens are the part of the End Midlands and Highlands that form the steep cliffs. Nothing generates here. The small End Islands are the empty expanses between the larger islands, and nothing generates here.
The End Cities are the most important biome in the End. They are made out of Purpur blocks and have valuable loot including emeralds, enchanted iron, and diamond tools. End Cities look like giant skyscrapers, and are inhabited by Shulkers.
Sometimes you may come across an End Ship. This is a floating structure, resembling a ship, that can sometimes generate near an End City. They are the only places you will find Elytra, or the Dragon Head. Elytra can be used to glide across the map.
