Disney Speedstorm Character List – How To Unlock All Characters

Disney Speedstorm is the (soon-to-be) free-to-play Disney kart racer that seems inevitable in retrospect. Combining a laundry list of Disney and Pixar characters and locations with the kart racing genre makes so much sense, though in Disney Speedstorm, your roster may look quite a bit different from others due to the way characters are unlocked. If you’re wondering who is in the game and how you might buckle their seatbelts and take them for a spin, here’s the complete Disney Speedstorm character list and how to unlock all of them.

Disney Speedstorm characters

You can break down the list of available racers into two (or more, if you’re particular) categories: those who are unlocked right away, and those who you must unlock in other, less obvious ways. The following characters are available for play right away in the game’s local and online private matches, as well as online public matches once multiplayer is unlocked via the main campaign:

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Donald Duck
  • Mulan
  • Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Hercules

Several more characters can be seen in-game, though their unlock requirements vary in some instances. Players with the Ultimate Founder’s Pack can select one additional character from the following list to have them instantly unlocked:

  • Mowgli (The Jungle Book)
  • Elizabeth Swann (Pirates)
  • Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
  • Baloo (The Jungle Book)
  • Shang (Mulan)
  • Beast (Beauty and the Beast)

The characters you don’t choose from that list will join even more on a list of characters who must be unlocked through play or purchase. This includes:

  • Meg (Hercules)
  • Goofy
  • Figment (Walt Disney World)
With the Ultimate Founder's Pack, you can unlock one additional character among other perks.

These characters can be unlocked individually through playing and acquiring Shards of each character. Based on an unlock system that will be familiar to mobile gamers, multiple Shards are required to unlock a character, and additional Shards can further improve the rarity of that character. Shards can be found in reward chests either earned for free in the game’s campaign and multiplayer reward tracks, or pulled from purchased Boxes in the real-money item shop.

10 Shards of a particular character are enough to initially unlock them for play, though given the often randomized rewards you’ll receive, it may sometimes be tricky to obtain the exact character or Shards you’re hoping for.

In addition to these characters, each season’s paid Golden Pass (battle pass) will include several more characters you can unlock, and these will come more naturally so long as you’re leveling through the Golden Pass. In the game’s inaugural season, the Golden Pass is fitted with a Monsters Inc. theme, and that includes two more characters who can be unlocked at the following levels:

  • Sully – Level 10
  • Mike – Level 15
Sully (and his pal Mike) can be unlocked via the inaugural Golden Pass.

Two others from Monsters Inc., Mike’s flame Celia Mae, as well as one of the movie’s villains, Randall, can be unlocked via the seasonal Monsters Inc. box. Once a season ends, its related content will be added to the Universal Box, which can be opened with Universal Box tokens or coins, both of which can only be earned, not purchased.

In total, this means the launch-day list of characters in Disney Speedstorm includes 18 characters, though players jumping in with the basic Founder’s Pack will only have access to the first five mentioned above, and Ultimate Founder’s Pack buyers will have one more than that. That will leave a majority of characters to be unlocked for even the spendiest players on day one. As new seasons arrive, look for new characters and brands to join the Speedstorm roster.
