The Fortnite Battle Bus Is Now A Transformer

Transformers, the legion of alien robots blending in as earthly vehicles, is adding a new member to its fleet: the Fortnite Battle Bus. Unavoidably seen in every round of Fortnite battle royale and Zero Build, the usually-blue bus has been reimagined in an official crossover with Hasbro toys.

The reveal comes just weeks after Optimus Prime joined Fortnite as the tier 100 skin in the Chapter 4 Season 3 battle pass, and follows a typical pattern where Epic adds a licensed skin to its battle pass lineup, then sells a related skin in the item shop. The Battle Bus comes included in a pack with two other Transformers–Megatron and Bumblebee–and will be sold as a three-pack officially called the Fortnite Transformer Pack. Download cards will be sold in brick-and-mortar stores alongside digital codes that will be sold on game platforms and in the Fortnite item shop starting on October 13 for $25.

No really, what happens to the bus driver?

Each of the skins comes with additional accessories in the form of a related back bling and a pickaxe, and the bundle also includes 1,000 V-Bucks ($8). A typical release like this sold in the item shop would surely go for more than $25 for someone buying it all, and it wouldn’t likely come with V-Bucks in return, so relative to the Fortnite norm, this is actually a bargain.

Annually, Fortnite releases a major skins pack such as this in time for the holidays. It’s one way a live-service game that gets no sequels can still bolster sales during the holiday shopping season. Previous packs have included characters like DC Comics villains Joker and Poison Ivy, and anime-themed reimaginings of some of the game’s most adored characters, like Penny and Midas.

While the Transformers crossover content will be otherwise over by the time this pack rolls out–Season 4 will kick off sometime in September–this skins pack gives fans of the iconic cartoon and toys another opportunity to see their favorite robots doing TikTok dances.
